One-on-one meetings provide individualized education and guidance and may cover topics like resume building, job application, and goal setting. Field trips may include community college and university campus tours, work development agency visits and career fairs. In addition to the concrete services FYL offers, the program also focuses on building soft skills like effective communication, personal responsibility and teamwork skills. FYL helps youth create and pursue financial, educational, and career goals. The aim of the FYL is to equip foster youth with essential education and tools that prepare them for effective transition into adulthood.
