Hale Kipa’s Independent Living Programs provide outreach services and residential programs for youth who are in or transitioning out of foster care, to prepare them for independent living. We’re advocates, researchers, social workers, parents, and thought leaders who are dedicated to improving the child welfare system. What started as the Rhode Island Foster Parents Association (our former name), eventually pivoted into an organization that supports young adolescents and adults who are currently or formerly in the foster care system.
Our programs are open to all youth in and from care in BC between the ages of 14 and 24 and our goal is to make sure that all young people are connected with opportunities to express their unique voice and reach their full potential. Boys & Girls Haven Transitional Living programs serve young people from 18 to 21 years old who are preparing to age out of foster care. We offer structured, dorm-style housing in our Pre-Independent Living program and scattered site apartments in our full-fledged Independent Living program.
This lifelong commitment to our alumni provides the support they need to take on any new challenge. Like any young adult in a traditional family, our alumni can more effectively thrive if we remain available to provide safety-net services and other limited support as needed to help them begin their new, independent lives.
