(2013) Practitioner Review: Children in Foster Care – Vulnerabilities and Evidence-based Interventions that Promote Resilience Processes

In this review, we describe some of the common vulnerabilities seen among foster children, including emotional and behavioral deficits, brain and neurobiological impairment, and poor social relationships with parents and peers. Next, we review eight evidence-based interventions shown to promote resilience among foster children, obtained via a systematic search of the PsycINFO database. Finally, we provide a discussion of implementation advances and challenges.
